CARABINIERI (Italian Mounted Police) WILL PERFORM THE
FAMOUS 'CAROSELLO' FOR WEG
The Carabinieri, the famous Italian police service, have confirmed
that the 'Carosello', their prestigious mounted display that usually takes place in Piazza
di Siena (Rome) on the final day of the CSIO, will be part of the programme of WEG closing
ceremonies.
NEWS FROM WEG BOX OFFICE
Good news from WEG Box Office where the booking for tickets and memberships has been
increasing on a daily basis. Top sales belong to Australia and NEW Zealand, while amongst
the European countries The Netherlands and Sweden are at the top of the list. Between the
many nations that asked for tickets there are also Taiwan, Israel and Kenya.
FREE ENTRANCE FOR ROME'S RACECOURSES
During WEG all people bearing a WEG badge or with a WEG ticket will be offered free
entrance for Rome's racecourses, Capannelle and Tor di Valle, where flat and trotting
races will take place.
WEG'S FLAG FROM LAUSANNE TO ROME
It will take around sixtyfive hours the trip that will bring WEG's flag from Lausanne to
Rome. In fact three days before the beginning of the opening ceremony of the 1998 World
Equestrian Games, that will take place on 30th September in the Flaminio Stadium (Rome),
two long distance riders will leave Lausanne (Switzerland), the town where the FEI head
office is based, to bring the WEG flag to Rome. The departure of the first couple of
riders will be greeted by FEI President, Dona Pilar of Bourbon, and the IOC (International
Olympic Committee) President Juan Antonio Samaranch. The trip to Rome will be non-stop and
will see many riders involved. In fact every couple of riders will cover the distance of
10/15 kilometres.
"THE HORSE WHISPERER"
In honour of the Rome's World Equestrian Games, the American movie "The Horse
Whisperer", the film based on the worldwide best seller by Nicholas Evans and
directed by Robert Redford will be launched in Italy during WEG. The lauch is announced
for 6th October and will be followed by a big party in honour of the horse hosted in the
famous Via Veneto.
