"Shocked at first. I had mixed feelings. I felt sorry for Ulla..."

Debbie McDonald Live Interview
by Gay Walker
Debbie was born with a passion for horses although no one else in her family had the horse bug.  She talked her parents into buying her first pony for $250 and cleaned stalls for the board.
One day, when she was a “chubby 14 year-old” she came to the stable and found her trainer in the stall with the pony using a whip to try to teach it to stand on her hind legs. Crying, she led her pony down the barn aisles looking for a new trainer and boarding arrangement. That was how she met Bob McDonald, and the rest, as they say, is history…more

Chat
Debbie was our chat guest on April 17, 2001.
Debbie and Brentina just set a US Record High Score for the Grand Prix Freestyle, 75.65%, Saturday, April 14, at Golden State Dressage, Rancho Murieta, CA.
Two of the judges wrote in CAPITAL LETTERS --- WOW!
The freestyle begins with a double canter pirouette followed by one tempis down centerline.  If we can pull off those first two movements, its pretty impressive.
I am still worried that I won't be able to pull it off as successfully as I did this time. but isn't that what dressage is, trying to get that moment that was so wonderful again

Clinic Report
by Gay Walker

Debbie was an energetic and patient clinician, whose love for the horses was palpable.I am sure I was not alone in wishing her a long reign at the top of our sport, or proud to have her representing our country. I’ll also be looking forward to the next chance I get to sit in on (or maybe ride in?) a clinic with Debbie McDonald

Brentina USDF Horse of the Year
Pan Am Double Gold Debbie McDonald & Brentina won all three Pan Am tests to lead the USA to team and individual gold medals, 1999
