Riders with Disabilities Committee Judge Peter Lert chaired the first meeting of the Riders with Disabilities Committee. Hope Hand who represented the US at the Denmark Riders with Disabilities International Championship, Judy Nagy, head of Acord, Denise Avolio, representing the USCPAA, Anne Howard, Bee Pape and Louie Plagge, Coach/clinician were some of the attendees.
Establishment of a national registry of donated horses suitable for use by the Riders with Disabilities competitors. Publicity of the riders with disabilities competition opportunities. "Main streaming" --- goal is to train riders with disabilities for competition in regular dressage competitions as well as competitions for riders with disabilities. Anne Howard, Physical Therapist. "All riders deal with personal asymmetries and physical challenges. I work with students to increase their options to ride to the best of their ability." Every rider has physical or mental challenges to riding. Riders with disabilities are no different than any other riding student and should not be treated any differently. |
