Donnerhall, team gold medal winner at World Equestrian Games in Rome, 1998, died unexpectedly on January 14, at the age of 21 of "intestinal poisoning". Donnerhall whose name in German means:  Sound of Thunder, was a dark chestnut son of Donnerwetter and Ninette, both coal black.  Donnerhall proved that a stallion could not only be a top international performer but pre-potent sire.  

Donnerhall was branded Oldenburg, and also approved Hanoverian, Westphalian, Holstein, Bavarian, Baden-Wurttemberg, Hessen, KWPN, and Danish Warmblood,sired 77 approved stallions, including De Niro, the 1996 winner of the stallion licensening, and 84 states premium mares. Donnerhall's offspring competing at the prestigious CHIO Aachen 2001 included: Blue Hors Don Schufro, 93 chestnut Oldenburg stallion ridden by Lars Petersen for Denmark; Don Bolero 3, 94 Hanoverian chestnut gelding ridden by Michael Klimke for Germany; Domanio, 1990 grey Hanoverian ridden by Karin Rehbein for Germany; Dona Castania, 89 brown Hanoverian mare ridden by Falk Rosenbauer for Germany; and Rosemount Duntroon, 91 chestnut Oldenburg stallion ridden by Kristy Oatley-Nist for Australia. Duntroon won the 100 Day stallion test in Adelheidsdorf in 1994. 

His son, Davignon I was Bundeschampion in 1992.  Donatello, another son, was the highest priced auction horse in 1996.

In 1998, at the age of 17, Donnerhall won the German Derby with 78.33% in the Grand Prix Freestyle. His offspring have won over $500,000 in earnings to date.
