Conrad Schumacher Arrives

9/18 Australia leads after the cross-country phase from today. The beautiful well-built cross-country jumps were inviting to horse and rider combinations. Rumors were heart that the riders were very pleased on how ride-able the course was, with the exception of the heat. Today was the hottest day so far with 28°C degrees. No horse injuries were incurred; it was just a few riders with minor injuries. The Belgians were ill fated. Constantijn van Rijckevorsel unluckily fell on his ankle and had to go to the hospital. The diagnosis was a broken ankle. His teammate Karin Donckers fell from her horse during the steeplechase, but came out unscaved. The results after the cross-country phase are: 1. Australia 2. Great Britain 3. New-Zealand 4. United States 5. Germany The Australians only had time-faults, which gave them a large point-spread between them and Great Britain. Anky:” We walked the cross-country course already on Sunday to avoid the big crowd, which was expected. This was a good thing because 60.000 people did attend Monday’s cross-country. We chose to watch it on TV from the comforts of a couch. “ The cross country course could have handled a 100.000 spectators. But the parking lot, which is situated at the fun park Wonderland, was shared amongst other Olympic sports like Baseball, Shooting and Mountain biking. This is why the organization only allowed 60.000 tickets to be sold.
