Horse Holiday

9/17 Today Gestion Bonfire and Gestion Goliath had a quiet day, to keep the mind fresh. At home they get a day off from work every week as well, whenever possible, and that rhythm is kept up here in Sydney as well. After yesterday's BBQ a day off was absolutely necessary for some riders and trainers too. Ferro and Gestion Sylvano have done their normal training today.

Riders & Coaches Try Golfing <G>

9/17 This weekend Sjef Jansen invited riders and trainers to the golfcourse for a try-out. Everybody liked it, though most people decided that trying to hit such a small ball with a long stick makes you thirsty, so they went for a drink. Sjef Jansen and coaches Johan Heins and Jurgen Koschel however decided to try 9 holes. The result was fascinating. Balls, clubs and pieces of grass flew everywhere. After the ninth hole, Sjef concluded that they should better not give up their day jobs. Golfing in Australia is a lot more informal than elsewhere: Shorts and children are allowed on the golf course.

Saturday Night BBQ

9/17 On Saturday evening the riders invited 40 other riders, members of the press and new found Australian friends, under supervision of Chef Frank Garritsen. It was a big party: a tree-climbing, guitar playing Kangaroo passed by, and produced evergreen after evergreen, together with Dutch photographer Glenn Wassenbergh, who works for the largest daily in Holland, de Telegraaf. Hotel California was visited about ten times, much to the joy of the guests. Two giant BBQ's were installed, on which Frank and farrier Rob Renirie, including a fresh jet lag, cooked specially prepared Kangaroo meat (not from the guitar playing one). Photographer Jacob Melissen lost the way to his new home in the early hours. It appeared that George Sanna had the key, but where was he? George was obviously very busy in his caravan, and nobody dared to ask with what. Finally, somebody managed to wrestle the key from the hands of a very reluctant, grungy George, so he could get on with business.
