Darby, 40,

I think this last photo shows Darby's eye and the years of turning
softly to gray....in the beginning her face was brown with a star, blaze
and snip....Holly would kiss Darby's star. The little things on her neck in
the photo are shavings because it was early in the day.

Darby came to Sue as a
first horse for her daughter Holly and the first horse for the
family. In her senior years, she had persevered through
various senior ailments, but recently a new diet and medications had
allowed her to frolic as a youngster, bucking, cantering, even coming in
heat. Through Sue's posts, we all came to know and love
Darby.

A Darby
Thought Day
August 4, 1999
Sue LaFlamme
Each
day I find myself practicing seeing you with my eyes closed, it comes
naturally now
Unbidden thoughts of your beauty
Rich chocolate brown eyes that have seen so much,
undimmed by the thief stalker of sight.
Your time here counted in the grey haze of your face
soft sweet muzzle hewn with time in pale grey shadow.
Spirit horse of my world wander on through my life
and be mine forever more
in thought, in sight, in reality...stay.
Let me wander with you in morning mist
where age has no color or hue
just me, just you.
