"This has atmosphere!", Isabell Werth praised the feeling ath the Bad Honnef dressage festival after her victory with Antony at the Grand Prix Special. Highlight of the event which attracts 10,000 spectators was the professional's championship with horse-changing. After two victories at the qualification tests the visitors hoped for another first place for the local hero Ludger König from Bonn. But titleholder Hubertus Schmidt from Paderborn appeared to be in top condition and beats König with a difference of 21 points. Consolation for König: His 15 year old brown stallion was - as in last year - best horse of the finals. At last he had to take rank three after Herbert Boger with High Noon. The 'Island-Tropy', a freestyle for youngsters and young riders was gained by the 17 year old Jana Kun from Aachen on Zeus.
Two rising stallions attracted the views of the spectators in the St. Georg Special which is a qualifier for the 'Nürnberg Burg-Pokal': The black hanoverian stallion Wachhorst, who gained position two and the Donnerhall son Rosemunt Dunt-roon in position three, which was presented by Karin Rehbein. Winner was Isabell Wert with the seven year old mare Ferrara S. a daughter of Florestan I.

German Championships at Gera 7/17 - 7/19/1998

Klaus Balkenhol, german Dressage trainer, did a good choice in assembling his crew. "The four ladys that won last years championships at Versen will be on top of the list again this year," he said. Once again these four ladies confirmed their leading position at Gera though everybody knows that Isabell Werth hardly would have any chance without her horse Gigolo. Nissan Amaretto, her 12 year old rising horse appeared to be no real substitute for Gigolo. Especially when doing the passage and the piaffe he seemed to be spiritless. It was Nadine Capellmann-Biffar who collects high scores at these lessons thus gaining the leading position. She spoiled her winning-chance on the last day of the event by performing a less impressive freestyle. Isabell Werth presented herself very concentrated and engaged so she and Nissan Amaretto showed the best performance this winning her 6th championship. "I felt challanged, that gives me a kick," she commented afterwards.
Together with Karin Rehbein and Jürgen Wirths the 'Roman Quadriga' seems to be complete
