CDI*** at Spangenberg 7/3 - 7/5/98

The Spangenberg competition was another sift test for the WEG at Rome, just like the Aachen and Münster competitions. Due to the rainy weather, the floor of the arena was covered with mud and puddles, so the competitors had an additional handicap. Antony - Isabell Werth's 12 year old gelding appeared to be pretty afraid of water. At the beginning he was seriously irritated by a big pool and the muddy ground, so Isabell Werth several times had to 'convince' him to go on with the test. Isabell casted a glance of desperation to her trainer Dr. Uwe Sculten-Baumer. "Go on!" was the command.
"The promoters have to care for a new ground" Dr. Schulten-Baumer said after the show. But the promoters disagreed: "This floor is was in a good condition in spite of the rain, and even Isabell Werth should cope with it!".   Anyway at least the judges appreciated the bad conditions. Though her performance looked a bit strained, she was put into 2nd position. For everybody's surprise the winner was Thorsten Dietz and his Hanoverian gelding Boney M..
