Lammer's Dressage Festival at Olfen (5/11-5/13/98)

One of the highlights was the appearance of the olympic medalist and German Trainer Klaus Balkenhol that lead to some turbulence before the event. As a consequence he withdrew his nomination and presented his olympic horse 'Goldstern' during a special show insertation at a competition break. Anyway, the audience was happy and gave the pair an ovation.
Ovations were given also to another pair: Ann-Kathrin Ehlen and Peron, former olympic horse of Michelle Gibson. Ann Kathrin won the Grand Prix as well as the Grand Prix Special ahead of the big favourites Ulla Salzgeber / Rusty and double olympic winner Isabell Werth / Nissan Gigolo.
Rusty who sure is more impressive than Peron faulted in both tests while Peron was in brilliant condition and relaxed.
Quite satified with her performance Isabell Werth praised the competition:" It's a great event every time. Very professional and yet familiar!".
12.000 spectators visited the show that lasts for three days and it also was a meeting of VIP's from the horse-sport scene.

CDN Dressage Special at Bad Salzuflen (GER) (5/8 - 5/10/1998)

This was a special weekend for Isabell Werth. After her lon winter's - break the 28 year old presented Gigolo for the first time this year and amazed the audience by getting two world-records in one stroke. She wasn't sure if the record score of 1,918 for the Grand Prix had been her best result ever but concerning the Grand Prix Special that ends wit a total of 1,704 points she commented: "Sure I never had that many !". Not only the victory of Isabell Werth but also the splendid results of the other members of the german cadre made Klaus Balkenhol, the german trainer very happy. "The horses have been simply phantastic!", he said.
For the first time the 'Dressage Special' , organized by Rolf Ehlers, consisted out of a team-competition instead of a seperate freestyle test. Teachers and scholars, father and daughter or similar combinations made up the teams. The team's test was won by Karin Rehbein and her scholar, the 19 year old Kristy Oatley-Nist from Australia with Rosemount Oskar.
This also was the first night for the 'Deutsche Pony Derby Dressur' (German Pony Derby Dressage) which was won by the 15 year old Svenja Meyer on Samurai in front of Maureen Henschke on Sky Driver and Desiree Schurf with Dressman. For Svenja Meyer it is the last year of participating in this class.
