competitor, she lost her balance at the rim of a small pond and slipped into the water.
Anyway this fault didn't turn out to be an omen. The lady from Rheinberg and

collected an additionally victory in the freestyle on Amaretto. Theme of discussions was the italian judge Conte Alberto Boetti, who
is also nominated as a judge during the WEC at Rome. "I had two fights against a
judge and was defeatet two times", Ulla Salzgeber complained about him. Dr. Volker
Moritz asked for comprehension:"He didnt judge at international events for some
time, so he has to get familiar with the scene again". There is a rumor going on that
the Italians made a deal concerning their participation in the World Championships: They
wanted to put an italian judge into the commision too. Grand Prix

Essen Dressage Festival 5/31-6/1/98 A new start for Uphoff and Rubinstein The organizers of the Essen Dressage Festival were satisfied with their event. Though there was a concurrent horse-sport competition taking place at Wiesbaden at the same weekend, the Dressage festival attracted more than 4000 spectators and some VIPs too. Beside others Nicole Uphoff, Alexandra Simons-de Ridder and Ann-Kathrin Kroth joined the festival as riders and competitors. Everybody was eagerly awaiting the first performance of Nicole Uphoff and the stallion Rubinstein. Rubinstein is one of the horses that belong to the private stud farm of the Vorwerk-Happ family, Nicoles new sportive home. Rubinstein who was already discussed becoming a member of the german team under Martina Hannöver was less successful under Heike Kemmer. He performed a harmonic and balanced Grand Prix and made it to rank 2. "We still have to learn each other", Nicole commented her performance and she was quite satisfied with the result, riding the stallion only for a few weeks. So the last finish which will be essential for Nicoles comeback was still missing. Riding the seven year old Rubinstein - son Relevant the quadruple olympic winner made it to 2nd position in the Prix de St.George and she won the Nürnberg Burg-Trophy. Thus the pair qualified for the finals at Frankfurt. The big winner of the Essen Dressage Festival was the german member of cadre Alexandra Simons-de Ridder who - together with the 8 year old Chacomo - won the Grand Prix, the FEI freestyle and Grand Prix Special. |
Mannheim Mannheimer Maimarkt (A-National) 5/2 - 5/5/98 Heike Kemmer was the happy winner of the Grand Prix.
"Borsalino exceeded his own capabilities today. At the age of 16 he achieved the
highest score of his career!". In the same manner he performed next days Grand Prix
Special, but Isabell Werth and her rising horse Giorgio, who did it to rank 2 the day
before just showed a remarkable improvement and gained a scuring difference of 5 points
against Heike Kemmer, though Giorgio faulted at the flying changes. Anyway Heike Kemmer
was also satisfied with her 2nd position. Grand Prix
