78th Spring- und Dressurderby at Hamburg (5/21 - 5/24/98)
(jumping and dressage)

A good performance and no dangerous competition made it easy for the team World-Champion and European Champion Karin Rehbein to win the German Dressage Derby for the 6th time. After winning this event in 1982, 1988, 1990, 1991 and 1994 she and her experienced 17 year old stallion Donnerhall, who already had been participating in the 1994 triumph, she showed a clear and convincing performance thus gaining the first position in Grand Prix and freestyle. Getting to position 4 in Grand Prix special was sufficiant for her to become the overall winner again.

Second in overall scoring was Kyra Kirklund from Finnland (Suomi) who won the Grand Prix Special though her horse faulted during the transition of trot into passage. Though not as successful as last year, Monica Theodorescu was quite satisfied with her results in Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special.

Pferd International at Munich (5/21-5/24/98)

To join the tests at the Pferd International at Munich-Riem proved to be most profitable for Isabell Werth. With her rising crack Nissan Giorgio she won the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Special. Together with her second horse, Antony, she additionally made it to first position in the Grand Prix freestyle.

Heike Kemmer, and the 11 year old westphalian horse Caesar also impressed the audience by winning another Grand Prix and gaining second position at the freestyle test. Riding the 11 year old Beauvalais, a son of Bolero she got to a remarkable 3rd position at the Special and the Grand Prix.

Local hero Ulla Salzgeber put the saddle on two of her rising horses instead of riding Rusty. Both horses recommended to be ready for the ‘big sport’. Together with Dressman the lady from Wörishofen won the Prix de St. Georges Special as well as a S-level dressage test. Wall Street, her other horse carried her into 4th position in the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special.
