CSI-A/CDI-W at Neumünster (2/12-2/15/98)

The well balanced timing between high-level dressage tests in the morning and pretigious jumping performances in the afternoon and evening maintained thrill and excitement for the spectators. Starting with the presentation of rising horses like Louise Nathhorst's Guiness (SWE) or Karin Rehbein's Donnerhall-son Domiano (GER)  the dressage performaces reached their climax in the Grand Prix test and the World Cup freestyle. At Neumünster the new and shortened version of the Gran Prix test was performed to give more riders a chance to join in. All riders agreed that this new Grand Prix version is well rideable but takes some time to get familiar with it. This fact obviously was missed by Amaretto thus Isabell Werth was second to Louise Nathhorst in this test. But in the World Cup event the 28 year old   presented an unbeatable performance. In Neumünster it was obvious that new competitors are on their way to the top. Besides Jürgen Wirths and Souverän who had been last years rising stars you also may add Kristi Oatley-Nist and the Spanish rider Ignacio Rambla-Algarin and Invasor who appeared to be spectator's darling for this year.

34,000 Visited the Bremen Championship

Besides the jumping competition there were two dressage tests. Two competitors from the city of Bremervorde surprised the judges and the audience.

After her sensational appearance in the Münster Championship, Ann Kathrin Ehlen on Peron made it to 2nd position for the Grand Prix de Dressage.  Her trainer Rudolf Zeilinger, on Livinjo, won the test.  For the Grand Prix Special they simply changed positions.

Ann Kathrin Ehlen, a 21 year old student, who already had been a European Champion in Ponyriding as member of the youngster's team, is anxiously hoping that she might continue riding Peron, who had been previously ridden by Michelle Gibson (USA).   Later, she would like to ride her own horse Winiza. He is being ridden, this season, by her trainer Rudolf Zeilinger.

Isabell Wert made it to 3rd position in the Grand Prix Special. During the Grand Prix de Dressage her newcomer horse 'Welcome' misbehaved, so she only made it to position 6. Her 3rd position in the Grand Prix Special she regarded as a successful attempt to get back her horses confidence.

CSI Hannover (1/30-2/1/98)

Karin Rehbein,on Donnerhall, made it to position one (dressage). Donnerhall presented himself in a very good mood for the competition and won all high-level dressage tests (including a Grand Prix freestyle) 'on the fly'. " I really didn't expect him in such good mood", his rider Karin beamed after the show. Isabell Werth (2nd) commented laughing: "Oh yes - he absolutely overran us - no doubt about that!". 3rd position was for Kristy Oatley-Nist, the 19 year old student of   Rehbein.

Munster Championships

A New Face In The Arena:
Ann Kathrin Ehlen (frequent European Champion in the youngster's team) and Peron, made it to the first position in Grand Prix and 2nd in Grand Prix special. Her trainer Rudolf Zeilinger and Ann Kathrin's Hanoveran mare Winiza went for rank 3.

Another surprise was 'Farbenfroh' ('Colourful') under Nadine Capellman-Biffar. He piaffed himself  into the 2nd position in the Grand Prix and to Position 1 in the Grand Prix Special.

Dr. Reiner Klimke, who also joined the show, announced that his stallion 'Biotop' will go for breeding. And he denied rumors about his retirement. "As long as I'm fit and have fun with riding, I will continue!" he said.
Biotop, who has suffered from an injury for several months, has been on a show tour in Toronto recently, and presented himself in a very good condition.

'Chan', an 18 year old Trakehner stallion from Russia, owned by the Klimke family, finished his dressage-career. He was ridden by Ingrid Klimke, the daughter of Rainer Klimke. Chan was very succeful under Klimke's son Michael. He made it to rank 4 in the Grand Prix Special - certainly a well deserved result for the 'Professor', as he is called, who will now live in retirement.
