Germany won the Grand Prix and
Nation's Cup led by Rusty and Farbenfroh, 1st and 2nd, with Renoir
who has been scoring higher in 7th. Rusty, Farbenfroh, and
Renoir lead the German team with Isabell Werth a possible
4th. Heike Kemmer and Albano did not compete in the CDIO
Grand Prix. Hubertus Schmidt of Germany finished 6th, but he is
competing as an individual, not as a team member.
Spain led by Beatriz Ferrer-Salat and Beauvalais were 3rd in this
tough competition and combined with Rafael Soto and Invasor in
5th, won the team Silver! Spain is aiming for World
Equestrian Games in Jerez this September.
Netherlands without top competitors Ellen Bontje (Silvano) and
Arjen Teeuwissen (Goliath) won the bronze led by 4th place Olympic
Ferro and Coby van Baalen. Ferro has stallion presence and
it was a delight to see this pair back on top. Gonnelien
Rothenberger-Gordijn and Weyden improved over 2001 and finished
8th.
USA led by Lisa Wilcox and Relevant, 12th, and Guenter Seidel and
Nikolaus, 13th, finished 4th. Christine Traurig and Etienne,
25th. The US team was without Brentina, 1st at Gladstone, and Flim
Flam, 3rd. Debbie McDonald and Brentina can only be in
Europe 60 days or Brentina, a mare, has to be in quarantine on her
return to the US. They will travel to Germany in late July
where Debbie will compete Felix in the 5 y.o. World Young Horse
Championshipin Verden before training with Klaus Balkenhol in
preparation for WEG. Flim Flam had mild colic at Gladstone,
so Sue decided to rest him before the trip to Europe to
train. The US rules gave the top three competitors at
Gladstone - Brentina (Debbie McDonald), Nikolaus (Guenter Seidel)
and Flim Flam (Sue Blinks) an automatic berth on the US team for
WEG provided they are sound and able to compete in
September. Brentina is on a fitness program after having a
bit of a stuggle with the heat the first weekend at
Gladstone.
Denmark without Blue Hors Cavan and Lars Petersen who are now
residing in the US and will travel in July to Europe to compete
before WEG in Jerez, had the 9th place score with Kennedy and Lone
Joergensen.
