Wonderful
music, great choreography, great entrance! The first kür that
looks as though time has been spent wisely creating something to
actually fit and show off the horse’s strengths. Unfortunate
spooks at M looking towards C. Too bad, because this partnership
has really developed into something special. |

Why did
Briar spook at "C" midway through the test? CHIO
Aachen is televised live to all of Europe. Just as the
photographers packed the photo area for Sunday's Freestyle, the
television crew brought in more cameras for the kür including one
rain jacket shrouded camera on rolling tripod that suddenly
appeared beside the judge's box at "C".
Unfortunately for Briar, just as he rounded the corner at M, the
monster tv camera at C was directed to video the capacity crowd in
the stands. The rain jacket shrouded camera rolled forward
and panned so the crowd shot wouldn't be blocked by the judge's
box at M. Briar was justified in being startled by this suddenly
appearing rolling monster. |

The kür
opens with walk pirouettes! The music for the half pass work is
just perfect. The piaffe, perhaps because of the early spook, too
often looks like passage on the spot—lotta legs moving, not much
back. Nevertheless, a wonderful education in how a rider, using
determination and tact, can keep a horse going. The passage
‘box’ is just beautiful, some resistance again in the piaffe. |
