Noble Horses to Dance Music and horses have been in close connection for a long time. In the early years there were cavalry marches, today the horses dance to music in dressage competitions or at shows. Especially through the introduction of the freestyle to music for the international dressage program, music has achieved a new and special meaning. So, it was quite obvious to make "Horses and Music" to the theme of the opening ceremony on the occasion of the CHIO Aachen 2000. At 6.30 p.m. on the first day of the tournament, July 11th, the opening ceremony will start with a colourful program. "We have planned wonderful presentations which show horses in harmony with music", Frank Kemperman, manager of the ALRV and show director of the CHIO Aachen, illustrates the program. The four-legged attractions will not only dance to folklore music, but, ballet dancers from the dancing-school Carla Brettschneider will also demonstrate their artistic abilities. A highlight will definitely be the dance of the black and white baroque-horses according to the character of the horses: high tunes for the Lippizaner and low tunes for the Frisian. The organisers have arranged something special for the presentation of the nations: Parachutists will bring the national flags into the jumping stadium.
