Ky's Leasing Adventure
Like a "free pony" these are the "too good to be true" vehicle ads $199 a month for 36 months,
$0 down that seem to be everywhere on tv and internet.  Most customers are eliminated by
the requirement for Tier 1 Credit which only a very few people have.

Special Sales Tax
Break for Texas Residents

Email Denzel

In attempting to lease a new vehicle as seen in the online and tv ads, one of the first vehicle dealers to respond from my internet quote request, was Allen Russell, Red River Auto, Texas.  Allen called immediately, directly telling me all I needed to know about the vehicle I was seeking and answering leasing questions even though we were probably too far apart for Red River Auto to sell me a vehicle.

When Allen's manager, Denzel Watt, Internet Sales Manager, followed up with a second call, he politely gave me more straight info, and told me Allen also has cattle.  Cattlemen are good people.  Denzel also agreed that the reasonable cost to deliver a vehicle from Texas to Oklahoma was probably cost prohibitive and as an out of state resident, I didn't qualify for a special Texas sales tax break.

After negotiating with other dealers, I emailed Denzel and Allen thanking them for their professional, straight and courteous response.  Denzel called again this morning to thank me.

Ky's leasing quest continues

And so continued my quest to lease a new vehicle at or better than the featured online and tv ads from closer dealers.  [Like a "free pony" these are the "too good to be true" ads $199 a month for 36 months, $0 down that seem to be everywhere on tv and internet.]

At the first dealer, I learned that Tier 1 credit is required to qualify for the special leases.  So few people have Tier 1 credit, most potential buyers are instantly eliminated.  Surprise -- I have Tier 1 credit!

This dealer had 2 vehicles that I liked.  When told it would take 45 minutes to "write up an offer", I responded that I had to go home to feed and just call me in the morning.  Prompt call from financing the next morning quoting a lease rate more than 70% higher than the much advertised online terms.  Creative fee after creative fee was explained.  Hmmm.  I'm not interested.

Online Vehicle Info

There is a wealth of information available online about buying and leasing vehicles, including, of course, inventory listings on all the dealer sites where I noticed that all of the dealers were listing the same vehicles with identical VIN -- as "available".  This is probably a good idea as all the dealers in the area list the same vehicles -- the ones they actually have on their lots and all the ones they can "trade" another dealer.

I bought an online vehicle leasing guide kit which is very informative and worth the $19.95 price even if I never lease a vehicle.

By now I know all the RED vehicles of this make and model available in a 6 state area and even know all the option codes and have been in contact with more dealers.

Will Ky find a vehicle to lease?

No new vehicle made it to my garage before the Midwest Blizzard hit.  Highways are still clogged with stranded vehicles.  With only 4 days remaining in 2009, will I find a vehicle to lease by the end of the year?  Maybe, maybe not.  Stay tuned.
